Market Overview 📉

*Data as of 6:45 AM UTC on August 14, 2026.

Bitcoin (BTC) eased off this week, falling 1.78% while Ethereum (ETH) fared marginally better, falling 1.61% in the same period. Total crypto market cap drifted lower as well, falling 0.91% to $2.17T, from $2.19T the week prior.
Weekly liquidations started out strong on the long side, but eventually normalized over the week to balance against short liquidations closer to the end of the week. Funding rates largely rose across cryptocurrency majors despite the negative sentiment, perhaps reflecting increased risk-taking in the market.
📌 Michael Saylor’s Strategy raises its USD Reserve by $650M and repurchases $109M in STRC shares, bringing their total USD Reserve to $4.65B. - Link
📌 Crypto market maker, Wintermute, pushes into traditional finance, after acquiring a license as a registered broker-dealer. - Link
📌 The Bank of England’s Digital Pound Lab trials stablecoins for use in cross-border finance for small-medium enterprises. - Link

Why does it matter?

Despite a strong showing in the traditional equities market, the crypto market lagged behind equities, aside from a few select altcoins. Beaten down AI names drove strong returns in equities, notably stocks impacted by the Situational Awareness fund in the prior two weeks. The S&P 500 is up 0.82% this week, while the Nasdaq showed more strength at 1.65% up.

Notable altcoin outperformers this week included Velvet (VELVET), Cap (CAP), Pump.fun (PUMP), Banana For Scale (BANANA), and EtherFi (ETHFI).

Narrative of the Week 📰

Crypto regulations continue to take the spotlight this week as both the CLARITY Act and the SEC meeting to discuss crypto regulations fail to materialize.

📌 The Senate fails to pass the CLARITY Act before the Senate Recess, pushing the vote for the bill down to September at the earliest. -
📌 The SEC cancels their Friday meeting to discuss crypto regulations including that of stock tokenization and fundraising for crypto startups, in lieu of the CLARITY Act. - Link
📌 NYSE President Lynn Martin said that the exchange is developing an on-chain settlement platform for tokenized securities. -

Why does it matter?

Tokenization of stocks continues to offer a lucrative opportunity to bridge the gap between traditional markets and DeFi, especially with the lack of opportunities present in the crypto space at the moment.

Why does it matter?
